By Jim Bitros (Level: C' class)
Topic: The trooper, based on the song by Iron Maiden.
See lyrics at: http://www.lyricsfreak.com/i/iron+maiden/the+trooper_20068036.html

The first verse is about the battlefield. The song describes the guns and how the trooper feels when he attacks the enemy. It also describes the smell of the guns, the smoke and the breath of the horses.

In the second verse, the lyricist  describes the trooper's feelings and the charge against the enemy.  The lyricist describes the Russian's defence and their guns. In the line "and as we race towards the human wall" he uses a metaphor because there isn't a human wall in reality. Moreover, he describes the trooper's sadness about his comrades' death.

In the third verse we see the trooper who is watching the bodies on the ground. Furthermore, he is watching the enemy who is ready to shoot again. The trooper feels fear and stress. We can understand this from the lines "we get so near yet so far away" and "we won't live to fight another day". Moreover, in all lines we have rhymes because the lyricist wants to give rythm.

In this verse we see the fight and the trooper's death. The trooper is exhausted and he is afraid. We can see it in the line "without a tear I draw my parting groan". This line shows us that he hasn't got the strength to cry. Furthermore, we see the trooper's fear in this line too: "and as I lay forgotten and alone".

Finally, we can say that the war is a very cruel reality. We mustn't solve our problems with other people's blood. We must use our logic and stop the war. We would not want to be the trooper...

My Super Hero by  Kyriaki Kamakari (The Papaeliou Schools)
Level: A' Senior

My favourite super hero is Totomoto. Totomoto is strong and short. His hair is brown and short. His eyes are red.

He wears a red and black uniform with a cape and rocket boots. He doesn't like to play with people. He is very clever and fast. He is good at swimming and he can fly. He can jump and throw laser. He is a nice person and he is very happy. He doesn't like unhappy people.

One child named Peter found a treasure map and he wanted to find it. At the forest he saw a lion and he told it to go with him. They crossed the forest and they found ab eagle and asked him to go with them. The eagle protected the boy and the lion and they crossed the mountains. After that, they found a sheep and they crossed the cold. The four reached the desert where they met the camel. They asked it to go with them. Peter, the lion, the eagle, the sheep and the camel crossed the vast desert. The five finally reached the ocean where they met the turtle. They asked it if it could help them to cross the ocean. The turtle agreed. They met the owl on the other side. The owl spoke from its ancient wisdom and said that they had found the treasure. The five asked it where the treasure was. They all looked at each other and realized that what the the owl answered was right! They had found each other. That was the reasure
TEACHING: They found the greatest treasure ever because they passed the forest, climbed the mountains, dared the valley, braved the desert and crossed the ocean. They would never have done it without one another.
